Storm

Lighting illuminated the night sky followed closely by an immense clap of thunder.  The Fire Lord and Fire Lady were snuggled in their beds as they listened to the storm.  It was turning out to be a rough one tonight.  They both liked to fall asleep to the sound of rain.  It was calming after a long day.

Zuko and Katara both turned towards the door when they heard it creak open.  Two pairs of eyes peaked in.  One was a set of gold and the other blue.  Lu Ten the eldest opened the door wider when he saw that his parents were awake.  "Can we come in?"  

"Of course you can dear," Katara said with a smile.  "What's wrong?"

"Kya heard the thunder and was scared.  I heard her crying."  Lu Ten grasped his little sister's hand and walked farther in the room.

"Can I sleep with you tonight, please?"  Kya's voice was small and quivered a little from her tears.  

"Sure you can sweetheart," Zuko said.  The brown haired girl ran to her parent's bed and jumped in between them.  Lu Ten looked at the massive bed longingly.  

Katara smirked with mother's intuition.  "Lu Ten would you like to sleep with us too?"

His face lit up and he ran to the bed as well.  "Yes!"  

They all got comfortable with the children in the middle and the parents on the ends.  As the little ones drifted into a peaceful sleep, Zuko looked over their heads at his wife.  She was staring back at him with a content smile on her face.  He was so grateful to have her in his life.  He thanked Agni everyday that she had agreed to share her life with him.  

Zuko gave one of his rare smiles just for her and whispered, "I love you Katara."

Her eyes softened and she replied, "I love you too Zuko."

The royal family drifted off to sleep as the storm quieted outside.
